I bought the canon ae1-P today. Unfortunately they didn’t have the 50mm FD lens… so I got the 35mm f2.5 FL lens instead.

Wait a minute. You used a Metabones speed boster on one and a $9 Fotasy adapter on the other and you think the test results are not affected? Not to mention one was a new lens and the other had visable fungus. Come on, you can do better.

I prefer the older FD lens mounting, I find the nFD to be overly complex, and more susceptible to jamming, use FD lenses daily and have tone for 35 years

Lens cannot have too much contrast. The image with less contrast does not have more dynamic range or anything and therefore doesn't help color correcting. It's different thing than camera sensor's low contrast.

"You'll need to buy a lens hood...for your Summicron...". That statement totally disqualifies the reviewer. Just a look at the Summicron shows that it has a built in hood. Also, the obvious contradictions about which lens performs better makes it clear that the reviewer is totally biased towards Leica. I really like the Summicron, but in direct comparisons between photos I took of the same subject, a Yashica Yashinon-DX 50mm/1.7 (available for the price of a Big Mac) was chosen by my friends as the "really expensive lens".

Almost all nfd lenses are made of metal.

In the comparison, color from both lenses look weird, kinda uncomfortable tbh.

Some of these cheaper lenses are really for film cameras some of the cheaper makes will cause chromatic or purple aberration which will only be on digital images

The cons for these lenses are not even cons. If you are a serious videographer or photographer you should be doing virtually everything manual anyway, you also should have the camera on some type of stabilizing device like tripod or gimbal anyway when it comes to stabilization unless intentionally doing hand held for a certain look. I have honestly done a comparison with the fd lenses with the rokinon cinema lenses and image quality is pretty much the same. Fd’s just give more lens flare and sometimes not as wide open aperture. But those things are easy to work around.

Hi Matt! Thank you for your nice video! The Rokkor-X you are using for this comparison is probbabily a 4th generation Rokkor (maybe MD II), made later than 1978 and known to be much worse in performance and construction (smaller front, more plastic parts). It would had been nice to compare with a 3rd generation MC III (1973 - 1975) which would better pair with you Leica R serial 2778077 (1976) (font Justin Phillip videos on Minolta Rokkor).

Splitting an image as a left side and right side might seem like a good idea but if you really think about it, for comparing lenses, you really need to see the full picture of each lens separately as we are not seeing the same parts of the image with both lenses! So your comparison is invalid in my opinion.

I finally acquired a mirrorless camera and shot with the lens. I was stunned at how great the images look. It won't take over 1st position from my Contax c/y 50mm 1.4, but it's not far behind, and it delivers a very nice look.

There is a version that was released between these two. Are you aware of it and have you used it?

From my collection I tested my three vintage 24mm lenses to see which was the sharpest and clearest, using my Sony A7Rii. This is how they came out. The Olympus was way clearer shaper than the rest. I didn't know what to expect when I did this test, but earlier in the day I noticed the poor focus on the Canon nFD 24mm. I could focus and go past the best focus without ever being sharp at all. So the tests tonight. Two and three were about equal, but different. 1) Olympus OM-System H.Zuiko Auto-W 24mm f2.8 (BEST) 2) Canon FD-N 24mm, f2.8 3) Asahi Super Multi Coated Takumar 24mm f3.5
